Truck: 95 Diesel wagon.

First Problem: A/C works, but only through lower vents. Won't switch up to the dash vents. (Same in Heat mode also....) When directing the air flow to the upper dash vents via the control panel the arrow moves up like it should, then, all the arrows in that vertical row start blinking together.

Done:

  • Checked fuses. All ok.
  • Checked all obvious connectors. Under hump, and under passenger side crash pad. All links to the motors are clean and not corroded.
  • Disconnected power at battery....thinking may some CPU may reset.
  • Spotted relays under pass. side crash pad...(4?)....but....not sure which relay controls what.

Second Problem: Taking wife on mountain trip for her birthday. If I don't get this fixed, I'll jokingly hear it all the way up and back how this expensive, huge truck that I just *had* to have doesn't have a working A/C.

Done:

  • Attempted fix.....failed.....panicked and wrote to the list for analysis and more help.

Help gang......
Thanks....

I had the very same problem just last week. The flap vent which controles the air direction from your a/c and heater fan is controled by a cheap plastic fastner which has more than likely broken. This sounds like the problem. To check, remove the plastic vent cover which is right behind the glove box, when you have the cover off activate your a/c controles, you will notice a metal rod will move in and out. If this is the problem, this rod will not be connected to the flap. Mine broke where it was connected to the flap itself. Solution....I went to 4 G.M. dealers for the part with no luck. The part has two securing directions, so I took a tin can cut the rims off hammered it flat, made a section twice the size that I needed, folded it over flattened it down filled it with solder to make it ridged, then fabricated the part, you will then have to cut the part from the top and bottem so you can twist it leaving about 1/8 inch in the center, by twisting the part you will obtain opposing direction for securing. Solder a brace to the part, by doing this, it will eliminate flexing, drill two holes then secure the part to the vacume rod and flap, BINGO problem solved. cost 1 hour of my time and maybe 50 cents.

I seem to remember someone talking about their heat/AC control temp. indicator flashing all arrows. Did anybody ever figure out what that was? My indicator is flashing all the arrows. It still seems to work ok. But it really is annoying at night, when all those arrows are flashing in my face.

Bill..... The general opinion is that it is a faulty control module..........right there at the blinking arrow site. Mine does the same. All air flow (heat and cool) on mine is stuck in the lower (footwell) Last time I was at the local GM parts counter I noticed a sign that said 'No returns or refunds on electrical parts.' Wish there were a way to test the module first before I spend the $$$$.

I've considered visiting a couple of local junkyards to check for any wrecked 94/95 Chevy trucks to get a used one.

Good luck with yours......update the list on anything you find.
